U.S. Army Awards Three NGCD Contracts Totaling $3.9M to Chemring Detection Systems

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --(Business Wire)--

Chemring Detection Systems, Inc. ("CDS"), a subsidiary of Chemring Sensors & Electronic Systems and part of Chemring Group PLC ("Chemring"), has secured three cost-plus-incentive-fee contracts for the development of Next Generation Chemical Detectors (NGCD) totaling $3.9M with options for $21.3M (News - Alert) from the US Army Contracting Command. Work under the contracts will be performed at the company's facility in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The NGCD Technology Development program defines requirements for three NGCD variants: a Multi-Sample Identifier, a Surface Contaminant Locator, and a Platform/Site Air Monitor. The Joint Project Manager for Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Contamination Avoidance (JPM NBC CA (News - Alert)) is conducting the NGCD program to fill known operational gaps in chemical detection. The three variants are being developed to detect, identify, quantify, alarm to and report on diverse chemical species in any phase of matter. These variants will support multiple mission events including Chemical Release, Site ssessment, and Decontamination.

"These awards are a reflection of the innovative and cost-effective solutions being developed and proposed by our NGCD Program Team," stated Tom Thebes, President of Chemring Sensors & Electronic Systems. "More importantly, these sensors will provide enhanced capabilities in protecting both our soldiers and civilians from the growing threat of chemical and other toxic agents that our enemies use around the world."

Chemring is a market-leading manufacturer supplying high-technology electronics and energetic products to over sixty countries around the world.
