Hungary to call auction for 800 MHz spectrum in April. [IntelliNews - Weekly Reports]

(IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Hungary's National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) plans to call in April a tender for the utilization of the 800 MHz spectrum, which could be used for wireless broadband services, MTI news agency reported, citing local daily Vilaggazdasag. This frequency was freed up as TV broadcasters move from analogue to digital transmissions.

The government has decided to offer licences for 20 years, instead of the earlier planned 15. This move followed consultations with industry insiders.

Authorities expect the sale to generate HUF 125bn (EUR 402mn) revenues.

NMHH announced plans last November to call tenders for unused frequencies in the 2,600 MHz, 1,800 MHz, 900 MHz, 800 MHz and 26 GHz bands with the aim of expanding mobile broadband Internet access.
