FreedomPop Selects Bandwidth to Enable Real-time Phone Number Selection for its Free Mobile Service

RALEIGH, N.C. --(Business Wire)--

Bandwidth, the leading choice for innovative and scalable voice, 9-1-1 and SMS solutions, today announced FreedomPop as a new customer of its Managed Platform Services. Bandwidth (News - Alert) is providing automated phone number management for FreedomPop, helping the company enable real-time provisioning of its mobile phone service offerings.

It wasn't long ago ordering phone service involved waiting weeks for a technician to show up to provision service. Today, when working with a legacy telecom provider, many of these entrenched manual procedures still exist. Manual telecom is a barrier that Bandwidth is working with innovators like FreedomPop to overcome in an effort to quickly bring their idea to market and support customer's real-time service activation expectations. Bandwidth removes this obstacle to innovation with its Managed Platform Services; cloud-based software applications that automate telephone number management through deep integration across the company's nationwide interconnected IP network.

Because of its "freemium" business model, FreedomPop had to be up and running quickly while also operating extremely cost effectively. With Bandwidth's help, FreedomPop launched their new offring in a matter of months without incurring the high costs that would otherwise inhibit them from offering their free services to consumers nationwide. FreedomPop's customers can now immediately assign and activate their phone service through their online account at, with ease of access that is critical in today's always on, mobile world.

"With Bandwidth we access and provision numbers and services in real-time,allowing us to focus our resources on providing more Americans free mobile service," said Stephen Stokols, CEO at FreedomPop. "The cost savings and decreased development time enabled us to keep our attention on providing the superior experience and level of service our customers demand."

"Bandwidth is always looking for ways to support innovators who are moving the communications industry forward. We congratulate FreedomPop for its spectacular new mobile phone service," said John Bell, Senior Director, Product Portfolio Leader at Bandwidth. "Most phone companies are plagued with a patch quilt of manual processes and systems that make it difficult for innovators to rapidly launch new products. Through automation, we eliminate this challenge, making it easy for customers to create revolutionary voice and messaging services."
