Ventyx Customer CenterPoint Energy Recognized as One of Nation's Top 10 Smart Grid Deployments

ORLANDO, Fla., March 25, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- ABB Automation & Power World -- Ventyx, an ABB company, today announced that CenterPoint Energy, one of America's leading energy delivery companies, has been recognized by Greentech Media as one of the "Top Ten North American Utilities in Smart Grid" for its smart grid deployment programs - including the implementation of Ventyx solutions designed to reduce the frequency and duration of power outages and enhance customer communications.

CenterPoint Energy has undertaken initiatives to significantly increase power reliability for citizens and businesses in the Houston metropolitan area in Texas. Central to the smart grid program is the deployment of Ventyx's advanced distribution management system (ADMS) and mobile workforce management software to improve fault detection, outage management, and the maintenance of assets supporting the electric grid. The program also includes networking more than 2.2 million smart meters, automating up to 200 distribution feeders and about 30 substations, and constructing an intelligent "self-healing" grid that leverages the latest in smart grid technologies from Ventyx.

"Our smart grid program is the foundation of CenterPoint Energy's transformation to meet the demands of 21st century consumers," said Kenny Mercado, division senior vice president, Grid and Market Operations, CenterPoint Energy. "We are closer to achieving this transformation thanks to working with partners like Ventyx, which is helping us achieve our biggest business opportunities - improving customer experiences and enhancing reliability and operational efficiency." "CenterPoint Energy is a true global leader in the rollout of its smart grid technology - helping consumers manage their energy use, improving targeted outage responses by 21 percent in 2012, and reducing some outage lengths to just a few minutes," said Andy Bane, executive vice president, product management and chief strategy officer, Ventyx. "CenterPoint Energy has made major strides in its smart grid vision to transform the purchase, delivery, and use of energy and has undoubtedly set a benchmark for other utilities looking to improve their energy reliability."
