Loris teen, gang member charged with spraying foul odor at Horry County high school

Feb 08, 2013 (The Sun News (Myrtle Beach - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A 17-year-old Loris student was charged Thursday with spraying a novelty stink spray at school, according to authorities.

Jalee Khriey Brookins, 17, was charged with disturbing schools and stink bombs, illegal use of devices containing foul or offensive odors and booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 2:06 p.m. Thursday, according to jail records. Brookins was being held there Friday pending a bond hearing.

School officials were alerted by students about 1:30 p.m. Thursday that a foul smell was coming from the gym hallway near the lunch room, according to the report. Custodial staff went to the hallway, shut all the doors in the vicinity and refused to allow students in that area.

Officers noted the staff wore masks when in that area because of the strong smell.

When police reviewed video surveillance of the hallway, they noted Brookins was seen walking up and down the hallway spraying something out of a bottle, according to the report. Brookins put the bottle on the floor near a locker room door and left the area.

Police found the bottle, which was a novelty stink spray and seized it as evidence.

When questioned by police and school staff, Brookins admitted to spraying the liquid in the hallway, according to the report. Brookins also told police he was a member of the street gang, the Bloods.
