Denver, CO, Jan 29, 2013 ( via COMTEX) -- In support of the work of the NECA-IBEW contractors, has released a new video to highlight that NECA-IBEW contractors were an integral part of the recently completed FedEx Field Solar project. The new video details the scope of the project and the role NECA-IBEW contractors had in making this a success. NRG Energy, a Princeton, New Jersey-based company specializing in renewable energy projects, has announced that the completion of this project is one of their most ambitious sustainable energy projects to date. Company employees, along with the NECA-IBEW team of union electricians, have recently finished installing a massive solar power array in the parking lot of FedEx Stadium, home of the Washington Redskins.

The FedExField solar installation will provide 15 percent of the stadium's electrical needs during football game days and 100 percent at other times when the facility is in use for regular administrative work.

In keeping with the Redskins' commitment to green energy, NRG has included a number of charging stations for electric vehicles - which visitors will be able to access free of charge.

"It's our hope - and intention - that the FedEx solar array will serve as an inspiration and a model for similar projects across the country," said a Redskins representative.

The solar project is already influencing other NFL teams, including the Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles. Both football clubs are moving in the same direction with their own sustainable energy project ideas. In addition, the San Francisco 49ers are scheduled to open their own array similar to the FedExField solar panels in 2014. Other teams, including the New York Jets and the New England Patriots, have solar panels at their own training fields.

Christopher Meehan, a contributing writer for the website, believes that in addition to reducing dependence on fossil fuels, the highly-visible FedExField solar project will go a long way toward raising public awareness and getting more people on board with the idea of renewable energy.
