COMTREND Selects Marvell's Certified Silicon to Enable the Connected Home

LAS VEGAS and SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Marvell (NASDAQ: MRVL) today announced that COMTREND has selected Marvell's ITU-T compliant and HomeGrid Forum-certified transceiver chipset for use in COMTREND's PowerGrid Ethernet Adapter for home wireline networking. COMTREND joins a growing list of OEM partners in the second wave of design wins for Marvell, accelerating the global adoption of the extensible ITU-T standard designed to provide connectivity at data rates up to 1 Gbit/s over standard home wiring, including electrical wires, coaxial cables, twisted pair and optical fiber.

(Logo: The COMTREND PowerGrid 9070 and PowerGrid 9170 are based on Marvell's GE-DW360F powerline reference design, which includes the Marvell® 88LX3142 digital baseband processor, the Marvell 88LX2718 analog front end, and the Marvell 88E1510 Gigabit PHY with a complete TCP/IP protocol stack. With a built-in pass-through power socket in the PowerGrid 9070 and a smaller form factor case for the UL certified PowerGrid 9170, both models are designed to round out COMTREND's product line portfolio, offering high-performance connectivity for distributing bandwidth-intensive and real-time applications like HD IPTV, VoIP, gaming, and multi-room DVR over powerlines throughout the home.

"Our expanded collaboration with Marvell ensures the highest level of performance for delivery of high-bandwidth multimedia applications," said Frank Chuang, vice p resident of ma rketing for COMTREND. "By implementing designs based on Marvell's certified chipset, we are confident we are providing the best communications platforms for next-generation home networks." Since its debut in September 2011, Marvell's silicon continues to garner industry support. Marvell's chipset won a Best Electronic Design Award in December 2011 and a Connected Home Award in April 2012. Demonstrations at CES and the Asia Plugfest in 2012 generated even more interest in Marvell's vision and potential applications of the technology. Most recently, in December 2012, Marvell became the first silicon vendor worldwide to have its silicon achieve full compliance certification from the HomeGrid Forum, paving the way for mass deployments by OEMs of systems based on the Marvell chipset.

"Marvell is pleased to expand our relationship with COMTREND to grow its portfolio with products for the connected home," said Winston Chen, vice president of the Smart Home Business Unit at Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. " PowerGrid powerline products enable COMTREND's customers to access cloud-based multimedia content with a degree of speed and flexibility hard to match in the industry. Most importantly, designs based on our chipset bring the entire hybrid home network closer to being realized, with its ideals of total connectivity in an always-on world." Marvell powered COMTREND adapters will be showcased at the Marvell booth (South Hall 3 - Booth 31423) and at the HomeGrid Forum booth (South Hall 1, Booth 21906) during CES at the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 8-11, 2013.
