Alcatel-Lucent enables LG Uplus to deliver superfast broadband services to residents of major South Korean cities

Nov 20, 2012 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris andNYSE: ALU) has transformed the network of South Korea's LG Uplus, enabling theservice provider to dramatically increase broadband speeds and capacity inresponse to exploding demand for superfast Internet access, IPTV services,voice-over-IP and other high-bandwidth services in their homes.

Ranked as the world's most advanced information economy by the ITU [i] , South Korea isexperiencing rapid growth of broadband services. To meet this demand, LG Uplushas deployed Alcatel-Lucent's Internet Protocol/Multiprotocol Label Switching(IP/MPLS) technology in some of the country's major cities.

By deploying Alcatel-Lucent's IP service routers, LG Uplus will be able tooffer its customers faster, more reliable Internet access, video and voiceservices while growing revenues with the introduction of new services. This isthe first deployment of Alcatel-Lucent's service routers in Korea using itspowerful FP3 -- theindustry's first 400G processor -- and lays the foundation for future speedsof up to 400 gigabit-per-second and even greater capacity.
