Former Observer head pins book

LAKE MURRAY, Nov 07, 2012 (The Newberry Observer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- After writing for The Observer for more than 40 years, Ollie Moye is now authoring books.

North to Prosperity is the second book that Moye has written.

The book revolves around a murder on Lake Murray.

Moye says he has always loved the Lake Murray area and could not have found a better place for the setting of his book than in the Jewel of S.C., which covers four Midlands counties.

He adds the murder mystery is the best and strongest story line he has worked with.

This is Moye's second book with the first being Daddy, Tell Them We Don't Murder Bambi, which is a hunter's story.

Moye began writing while in the 11th grade as a 15-year-old in Anderson.

After writing a weekly sports column, Moye became the high school sports editor for the paper in Anderson.

He then was encouraged to apply for a job at The Observer. Thinking it was the Charlotte Observer and having never heard of Newberry, Moye accepted the interview.

Soon he and his wife were headed to Newberry to live.

From February 1957 until his retirement in September of 1996, Moye wrote and headed up The Observer. From 1979 to his retirement, Moye was the vice president, editor and operational officer for The Newberry Observer.

About 10 years before he retired Moye moved to Lake Murray, which he had always wanted to do.

Moye says God guided him to write the book and he has no idea if it will be a success.

"God will determine that," said Moye.

He adds that his books come from his thoughts and playing what if games.

Moye adds that he has written numerous books but has not published them.

The self-published book is available for $19.95 in softcover and $29.95 in hardcover and can be purchased at Books on Main where many of the books have been signed. Also they are available online and as e-books.

Also Moye has given copies of his book to the Newberry, Lexington and Chapin libraries.
